A full-sized keyboard will most likely always be your best bet for extensive writing assignments, but students and teachers are finding interesting uses for the digital pens that are available for many slate tablets and convertible laptop/tablet hybrids.

All students with tablets can use apps like MyScript Notes Mobile for Android or Microsoft OneNote for iOS to take notes in class. Evernote is another note-taking application that works on multiple platforms.

One of the really cool ways you can transform the way you work is by replacing pen and paper with digital pens used on a tablet, along with handwriting recognition software. An application called MyScript Notes Mobile from Vision Objects enables you to use your tablet as a real notepad, creating and customizing text and drawings using a stylus or just your finger.  This is especially useful for those in education, both students and teachers.
